The Minnesota Vikings have long been something of an afterthought whenever anyone talks of potential NFL Super Bowl finalists. To be sure, their offenses always rank among the top of the League in very year, and their defense is almost always at least average. They just never seem able to get it done on the field. By the numbers, however, most fans would be surprised to discover that the Vikings rank at number five in the NFL for all-time wins. Moreover, there was a period in the 1960s when they were clearly the cream of the NFL crop. Starting in 1969 – just eight years after they joined the League in the ’61 expansion, the Vikings were the NFL/NFC representative in four of the next eight Super Bowls. Despite failing to win any of the Bowls they played in, that eight year period was clearly the Vikings Era.
